Department Profile:
The journey of mathematics education at Hooghly Women's College began in 1960 with the introduction of undergraduate courses. In response to the growing demand for specialized mathematical education, the B.Sc Honours program in Mathematics was launched in 2006. Presently, the department offers both B.Sc (Honours and General) courses under the Choice Based Credit System, as well as B.Sc (Major and Minor) courses following the National Educational Policy 2020.
Situated on the 1st floor of the science building, the department is equipped with modern classrooms, a computer lab, and a research facility. The department is guided by a dedicated faculty team, including Dr. Samadyuti Halder, Dr. Gurudas Biswas, Rima Dutta, and Sumitra Basak (Ghosh), all committed to providing a comprehensive education in both theoretical and applied mathematics.
The department regularly organizes workshops and seminars on contemporary mathematical topics and encourages student participation in research projects. Emphasizing analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, the program prepares students for advanced studies and various professional careers. Many graduates go on to pursue M.Sc and research programs at renowned institutions.
