Department Profile:
Established in 1949, Hooghly Women's College has been a bastion of female education,
serving students from Hooghly district and beyond. In 1960, the Department of Physics was
founded, offering undergraduate education with a General course, followed by the
introduction of the Honours course in 1978. The department plays a pivotal role in shaping
students' understanding of the natural world and preparing them for diverse career paths,
emphasizing fundamental knowledge, problem-solving skills, interdisciplinary connections,
STEM education, and science communication.
With a vision to bridge theoretical concepts with practical applications, the department
