Department Profile:
The Department of Botany at Hooghly Women's College began in 2002 and is committed to providing quality education in plant sciences. As a key discipline within the natural sciences, at present the department offers only General courses, fostering a deep understanding of plant biology and ecology. Currently, the department offers B.Sc General courses under the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) and B.Sc (Major and Minor) courses as per the National Educational Policy (NEP) 2020. The curriculum includes technical and innovative teaching methods, such as practical lab work, field studies, and the use of modern botanical research tools. The department also hosts seminars, workshops, and guest lectures to keep students informed about the latest developments in botanical research and conservation. The Department of Botany equips students for various professional paths and further studies in plant sciences, instilling a strong commitment to environmental sustainability and conservation.
