The Department of Philosophy is one of the oldest in the Hooghly Women’s College. It started its journey in 1982.The Department has shown remarkable growth over the years. It offers courses both in Honours and Pass. For the development of the students the department provides books from Seminar Library and the Central Library as well. Both Libraries contain enriched books in this subject. The department ensures teaching-learning in accordance with New Education Policy. The faculty members have expertise in both Indian and Western Philosophy, areas like classical Indian tradition, Buddhism, Nyaya school of Philosophy, Samkhya school of Philosophy, Logic, Philosophy Of Mind, Socio-Political Philosophy. All members of the faculty are actively engaged in research, which has resulted in the Publication of books, reports and articles in Philosophy in National and International journals and anthologies. The faculty members with extensive experience in their respective fields, give students a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
